        INTRODUCED BY TOMLINSON, THOMPSON, LAVALLE, TARTAGLIONE,
           KUKOVICH, EARLL, MUSTO, BOSCOLA, KASUNIC, PICCOLA, HOLL,
           LOGAN, COSTA, DENT, WAGNER, BELL, C. WILLIAMS, SCHWARTZ,
           STOUT, O'PAKE, MOWERY, ARMSTRONG, PUNT, MURPHY, ERICKSON,
           CONTI, SCARNATI, LEMMOND, WENGER, M. WHITE, GREENLEAF,

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating the Marine Corps League on its 65th anniversary.

     2     WHEREAS, On August 4, 1937, Major General John A. Lejeune,
     3  United States Marine Corps, retired, Honorary National
     4  Commandant; Maurice A. Illch, National Commandant; Roy S.
     5  Taylor, Senior National Vice Commandant; Kenneth B. Collings,
     6  Junior Vice Commandant; Alexander F. Ormsby, National Judge
     7  Advocate; Reverend John H. Clifford, National Chaplain; Edward
     8  A. Walker, National Sergeant At Arms; John B. Hinckley, Jr.,
     9  National Adjutant and Paymaster; and John E. Brock, National
    10  Chief of Staff, composed the Marine Corps League; and
    11     WHEREAS, Incorporated by an act of Congress, the Marine Corps
    12  League preserves the traditions and promotes the interests of
    13  the United States Marine Corps by banding together persons now
    14  serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have
    15  been honorably discharged from that service; and


     1     WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League fits its members for the
     2  duties of citizenship, encourages them to serve as ably as
     3  citizens as they served under arms and holds sacred the history
     4  and memory of the Marines who have given their lives to the
     5  nation; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League voluntarily aids and renders
     7  assistance to all Marines and former Marines as well as to their
     8  survivors and dependents and perpetuates the history of the
     9  United States Marine Corps through fitting acts to commemorate
    10  historical occasions of interest to Marines; and
    11     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania natives Wilson L. Peck (1961-1962),
    12  Patrick J. Cody (1975-1976), Paul F. Hastings (1979-1981), Lamar
    13  Golden (1991-1993) and Paul J. Seton (1995-1997) have served
    14  with distinction as National Commandant of the Marine Corps
    15  League; and
    16     WHEREAS, August 4, 2002, marks the 65th anniversary of the
    17  Marine Corps League's congressional incorporation authorized by
    18  the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States
    19  assembled at the First Session of the 75th Congress of the
    20  United States and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt;
    21  therefore be it
    22     RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate the Marine Corps
    23  League on its 65th anniversary; and be it further
    24     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    25  John P. Tuohy, National Commandant of the Marine Corps League,
    26  at the national convention on August 5, 2002, in Harrisburg.
