        INTRODUCED BY COSTA, ROBBINS, KUKOVICH, TARTAGLIONE, MUSTO,
           TOMLINSON, BELAN, HUGHES, WAGNER, RHOADES, BRIGHTBILL,
           O'PAKE, STAPLETON, STOUT, BOSCOLA, WHITE, GREENLEAF, LAVALLE,
           BODACK, LEMMOND, MELLOW, WENGER, SCHWARTZ, HART AND THOMPSON,
           JUNE 6, 2000

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 6, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing June as "Myasthenia Gravis Month" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune
     3  neuromuscular disease striking all segments of our population
     4  and characterized by abnormal weakness of the body's voluntary
     5  muscles, resulting in double vision, drooping eyelids, slurred
     6  speech, difficulty chewing and swallowing, walking, talking and
     7  breathing, among other symptoms; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc.
     9  (MGFA) is the only voluntary health agency in the United States
    10  seeking a cure for this disease and related illnesses while
    11  working to improve the quality of life of those afflicted; and
    12     WHEREAS, MGFA is announcing the month of June as "National
    13  Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month" and has established June as
    14  "Myasthenia Gravis Month"; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage Pennsylvanians to join
    16  with communities throughout the nation in recognizing this vital

     1  opportunity to spread awareness about myasthenia gravis in the
     2  hope of finding a cure; and be it further
     3     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize June as "Myasthenia
     4  Gravis Month" in Pennsylvania.
