        INTRODUCED BY MOWERY, EARLL, BOSCOLA, KASUNIC, KITCHEN,
           KUKOVICH, LOGAN, SCHWARTZ, THOMPSON, WAGNER, M. WHITE,
           ARMSTRONG, BRIGHTBILL, CONTI, CORMAN, COSTA, DENT, FERLO,
           LAVALLE, O'PAKE, ORIE, TARTAGLIONE, ERICKSON, GORDNER,
           HUGHES, LEMMOND, MELLOW, PILEGGI, SCARNATI, D. WHITE,
           WONDERLING, GREENLEAF AND WENGER, JANUARY 26, 2004

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JANUARY 26, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of January 25 through 31, 2004, as
     2     "National Nurse Anesthetists Week."

     3     WHEREAS, Certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are
     4  essential to our health care system, as approximately 3,000
     5  CRNAs have provided high-quality, cost-effective anesthesia care
     6  for more than 100 years in this Commonwealth; and
     7     WHEREAS, CRNAs are advanced-practice registered nurses who
     8  have completed graduate-level education and a national
     9  certifying examination; and
    10     WHEREAS, These special anesthesia care providers are
    11  qualified to participate in all arenas where patients require
    12  the administration of anesthetic agents: obstetrical delivery
    13  rooms, surgical suites, trauma stabilization bays, hospital
    14  procedure suites, offices of dentists, podiatrists,
    15  ophthalmologists and specialty surgeons, ambulatory surgical
    16  centers, military and public health services and Veterans

     1  Administration medical facilities; and
     2     WHEREAS, CRNAs administer nearly 65% of the 26 million
     3  anesthetics administered annually in our country; and
     4     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to 11 nurse anesthesia
     5  education programs, the greatest concentration of nurse
     6  anesthesia programs in one state in the United States; and
     7     WHEREAS, The Philadelphia area is home to four nurse
     8  anesthesia education programs which grant master's degrees to
     9  nurse anesthesia graduates; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of January 25
    11  through 31, 2004, as "National Nurse Anesthetists Week" and urge
    12  all Pennsylvanians to acknowledge the professionalism and
    13  service of certified registered nurse anesthetists.
