A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming April 7 through 13, 2002, as "Holocaust Remembrance 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945 six million Jews were murdered in 4 the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic pogrom of genocide, 5 and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and 6 WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always 7 remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such 8 horrors are never repeated and should continually rededicate 9 themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and 10 WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain 11 eternally vigilant against all tyranny and should recognize that 12 bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and 13 WHEREAS, April 9, 2002, has been designated internationally 14 as a Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust, known 15 as Yom Hashoah; and 16 WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this
1 Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration; 2 therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That the Senate proclaim April 7 through 13, 2002, 4 as "Holocaust Remembrance Week" in Pennsylvania, in memory of 5 the victims of the Holocaust in the hope that we may strive to 6 overcome prejudice and inhumanity through education, vigilance 7 and resistance.
