SENATE BILL

        REFERRED TO STATE GOVERNMENT, JANUARY 23, 1989

                                     AN ACT

     1  Declaring and adopting the song "Dear Old Pennsylvania," lyrics
     2     and music by Emory A. Gobrecht, as the State song of the
     3     Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6  Section 1.  Official State song.
     7     The song "Dear Old Pennsylvania," lyrics and music by Emory
     8  A. Gobrecht, is hereby adopted as the State song of Pennsylvania
     9  and shall be the official song for all public purposes. The
    10  lyrics are as follows:
    11                      "Dear Old Pennsylvania"
    12  Verse 1
    13         My dear old Pa., The Keystone State
    14             they say,
    15         For we love the fields and woods along the
    16             way,
    17         The mountains and hills - the smell of new
    18             mown hay,

     1         You're dear to my heart Penn-syl-van-ia.
     2  Verse 2
     3         The parks and the lakes, the towns
     4             and cities, too,
     5         The schools and the church you'll find that
     6             this is true,
     7         It is so much more than we can do or say,
     8         You're dear to my heart, Penn-syl-van-ia.
     9  Section 2.  Effective date.
    10     This act shall take effect immediately.
