        INTRODUCED BY WAUGH, WAGNER, TOMLINSON, ROBBINS, BRIGHTBILL,
           MOWERY, THOMPSON, EARLL, DENT, COSTA, TILGHMAN, TARTAGLIONE,
           GREENLEAF, GERLACH, MADIGAN, O'PAKE, WENGER AND LEMMOND,
           AUGUST 23, 2000

        REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, AUGUST 23, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating November 18, 2000, as "HIKE Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, The Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment Fund, Inc. (HIKE
     3  Fund) is a not-for-profit charity founded in 1985 to provide
     4  hearing devices for children with hearing impairments from
     5  newborn through 20 years of age whose parents are financially
     6  unable to meet this special need; and
     7     WHEREAS, The HIKE Fund provides 100 children with hearing
     8  devices each year; and
     9     WHEREAS, The HIKE Fund is the official philanthropic project
    10  of the International Order of Job's Daughters, a Masonic
    11  organization of young women between 11 and 20 years of age; and
    12     WHEREAS, The International Order of Job's Daughters in the
    13  Jurisdiction of Pennsylvania has designated Saturday, November
    14  18, 2000, as its annual hike-a-thon to raise contributions for
    15  the HIKE Fund; and
    16     WHEREAS, The annual hike-a-thon will take place in


     1  Elizabethtown; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate November 18, 2000, as
     3  "HIKE Day" in Pennsylvania and urge all citizens to support the
     4  efforts of the HIKE Fund and the International Order of Job's
     5  Daughters in helping to meet the needs of hearing-impaired
     6  children.
