SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 207 Session of 2000


        INTRODUCED BY THOMPSON, HOLL, COSTA, TOMLINSON, WAGNER,
           TARTAGLIONE, ARMSTRONG, EARLL, WENGER, TILGHMAN, BRIGHTBILL,
           HART, GREENLEAF, ROBBINS, MUSTO, WHITE, BOSCOLA AND LEMMOND,
           SEPTEMBER 26, 2000

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, SEPTEMBER 26, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the month of October 2000 as "Archaeology Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The history of Pennsylvania is represented in the
     4  celebration of "Archaeology Month" as a time to focus on the
     5  artifacts that have been left in the earth for scientists,
     6  explorers, citizens and school children to learn what life was
     7  like more than 30,000 years ago in our Commonwealth; and
     8     WHEREAS, Our Commonwealth has almost 18,000 recorded
     9  archaeological sites and provides a living classroom for study;
    10  and
    11     WHEREAS, Excellent programs are being conducted at the
    12  Buckaloons Site in the Allegheny National Forest and during the
    13  "Sixth Annual Archaeology Month" on City Island in Harrisburg;
    14  and
    15     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission
    16  with the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology and the
    17  Pennsylvania Archaeological Council join with Federal and State

     1  officials to encourage educational and public outreach in the
     2  recognition of the importance of archaeology to the citizens of
     3  this Commonwealth; therefore be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the Senate declare the month of October 2000
     5  as "Archaeology Month" in Pennsylvania.
