A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring Pennsylvania's senior citizens by declaring the month 2 of May 2002 as "Older Americans Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, the President of the United 4 States has designated the month of May as "Older Americans 5 Month"; and 6 WHEREAS, This year's national theme, "America: A Community 7 for All Ages," recognizes our national community and pays 8 tribute to the American family as the strength of our nation; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Senior citizens are the pillars upon which American 11 families have been built; and 12 WHEREAS, "Older Americans Month" is celebrated throughout our 13 nation with seminars, festivals, fairs and other activities 14 which highlight the interests and accomplishments of our 15 nation's senior citizens; and 16 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania proudly ranks second in the nation in
1 the percentage of population which is 65 years of age and older; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, The heritage of this Commonwealth is embodied in and 4 enriched by the senior citizens who, as part of the American 5 family, call Pennsylvania home; and 6 WHEREAS, Senior citizens strengthen and preserve community in 7 our State and nation; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the Senate honor Pennsylvania's senior 9 citizens by declaring May 2002 as "Older Americans Month" in 10 Pennsylvania.
