        REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, JUNE 10, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of June 1998 as "Blood Donor Awareness
     2     Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The need for an adequate and uncontaminated blood
     4  supply is a very high priority for the health of the citizens of
     5  this Commonwealth; and
     6     WHEREAS, The need for blood donations has increased due to
     7  new surgical techniques and expanded treatment strategies; and
     8     WHEREAS, Periodic local and regional blood shortages result
     9  in needless suffering due to delayed treatment; and
    10     WHEREAS, The majority of Pennsylvanians are physically able
    11  to donate blood safely; and
    12     WHEREAS, Donating blood is a simple, relatively painless way
    13  of helping one's neighbors; and
    14     WHEREAS, The willingness of donors to share their blood with
    15  other members of their community is the foundation for
    16  availability and supply of blood products; therefore be it
    17     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of June 1998 as


     1  "Blood Donor Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania, thank all blood
     2  donors for their contributions and urge those Pennsylvanians who
     3  are able to consider joining the ranks of blood donors.
