        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, SEPTEMBER 27, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating Fallingwater as the 2000 Commonwealth Treasure of
     2     the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

     3     WHEREAS, Fallingwater, located in Mill Run in Fayette County,
     4  has been recognized nationally and internationally as one of the
     5  world's most important and admired residential buildings; and
     6     WHEREAS, Fallingwater, designed by the pioneering and eminent
     7  architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is considered by many
     8  architectural scholars as an example of Wright's finest work of
     9  integration of structure into the natural landscape; and
    10     WHEREAS, Fallingwater, built in 1936, is listed on the
    11  National Register of Historic Places and holds National Landmark
    12  status; and
    13     WHEREAS, The contents and grounds of Fallingwater are open to
    14  the public, and Fallingwater has become a major tourist site in
    15  this Commonwealth, attracting 130,000 visitors per year; and
    16     WHEREAS, The weekend home of the Edgar J. Kaufman family,
    17  Fallingwater was entrusted to the Western Pennsylvania
    18  Conservancy in 1963 and serves as an educational facility and

     1  world-class museum; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate Fallingwater as the 2000
     3  Commonwealth Treasure of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum
     4  Commission in recognition of its historical significance to
     5  peoples throughout our Commonwealth and the world.
