A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1 Reaffirming the Pennsylvania General Assembly's support for the 2 Delaware River Channel Deepening Project. 3 WHEREAS, The Delaware River has, since the inception of the 4 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, been a vital artery of commerce 5 and trade; and 6 WHEREAS, It is the longstanding policy of the Commonwealth of 7 Pennsylvania to encourage waterborne commerce and to support the 8 development and competitiveness of the Port of Philadelphia; and 9 WHEREAS, It is essential that the Delaware River navigation 10 channel be deepened to 45 feet in order to accommodate larger 11 steamship vessels and future growth; and 12 WHEREAS, The United States Government, acting through the 13 Congress of the United States and the Army Corps of Engineers, 14 has authorized a public works project that will deepen the 15 navigation channel of the Delaware River to 45 feet; and 16 WHEREAS, The Delaware River Channel Deepening Project is 17 enthusiastically supported by every organization and labor union
1 whose livelihood depends on a healthy and vibrant seaport; and 2 WHEREAS, It is essential that this extraordinarily important 3 public works project proceed without interruption; therefore be 4 it 5 RESOLVED, (the House of Representatives concurring), That the 6 General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania reaffirm 7 its support for the Delaware River Channel Deepening Project and 8 urge the Congress and the Army Corps of Engineers to take all 9 necessary steps to assure its successful and prompt completion; 10 and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 12 the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each 13 member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
