A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming the year 1999 as the "International Year of Older 2 Persons" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, It is a tradition for Pennsylvania to join the 4 nation during a time set aside to honor our older citizens, to 5 recognize their continued contributions and to call attention to 6 the issues that affect them most; and 7 WHEREAS, The United Nations has designated the year 1999 as 8 the "International Year of Older Persons 1999"; and 9 WHEREAS, Aging is a lifelong process, and preparation for old 10 age begins in childhood and continues throughout the life cycle; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, Older individuals are entitled to aspire to and 13 attain the highest possible level of health, recognizing that 14 with increasing age some individuals will need comprehensive 15 community and family care; and 16 WHEREAS, We are optimistic that the coming decade will see an
1 increase in partnerships, practical initiatives and resources 2 devoted to aging; and 3 WHEREAS, The aging of the State's population represents an 4 unparalleled, but urgent, policy and program challenge to both 5 public and private organizations to ensure that the needs of the 6 aged and their human resource potential are adequately 7 addressed; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania proclaim the year 9 1999 as the "International Year of Older Persons" in 10 Pennsylvania in order to pay a special tribute to our older 11 population and their families, neighbors and friends.
