           ERICKSON, WASHINGTON, LAVALLE, TARTAGLIONE, MADIGAN, WENGER,

        REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, APRIL 3, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of April 23 through 29, 2006, as
     2     "Pennsylvania One Call System Week."

     3     WHEREAS, As excavators and contractors work to keep pace with
     4  this Commonwealth's unprecedented economic development, it is
     5  important to minimize damage to underground utility lines,
     6  danger to workers, loss of utility service to our citizens and
     7  environmental pollution; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System, a utility service
     9  information center, is key to preventing injuries and damage
    10  when digging; and
    11     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System provides easy, one-call
    12  notification about construction and excavation projects that may
    13  endanger workers and jeopardize utility lines while also
    14  promoting public safety, reducing underground utility damages,
    15  minimizing utility service interruptions and protecting the
    16  environment; and

     1     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System began with six utility
     2  companies in western Pennsylvania and the City of Pittsburgh and
     3  now serves more than 100,000 excavators and critical
     4  infrastructure owners in this Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System transmits more than 6
     6  million notifications to protect critical infrastructure owners
     7  in this Commonwealth each year; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of April 23
     9  through 29, 2006, as "Pennsylvania One Call System Week" and
    10  encourage all residents of this Commonwealth to call 1-800-242-
    11  1776 at least three working days and not more than ten working
    12  days before digging in order to protect underground utility
    13  lines.
