| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Observing March 1, 2010, as "St. David's Day" in Pennsylvania; |
2 | and honoring the many Pennsylvanians of Welsh heritage. |
3 | WHEREAS, St. David is the patron saint of Wales, and March 1, |
4 | St. David's feast day, is the Welsh National Holiday, celebrated |
5 | by Welshmen throughout the world; and |
6 | WHEREAS, William Penn was the first of many people from Wales |
7 | to settle in Pennsylvania; and |
8 | WHEREAS, During the 19th Century, thousands of people moved |
9 | from Wales to Pennsylvania seeking employment; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Since Pennsylvania and Wales both include rare |
11 | anthracite coal among their natural resources, many of the |
12 | settlers from Wales settled in Pennsylvania's coal regions; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania now has the highest concentration of |
14 | Welsh people anywhere outside of Great Britain; and |
15 | WHEREAS, The rich Welsh traditions and heritage have had a |
16 | tremendous impact on Pennsylvania; therefore be it |
17 | RESOLVED, That the Senate observe March 1, 2010, as "St. |
