A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of April 2008 as "Prevention of Animal 2 Cruelty Month" and designating April 10, 2008, as "ASPCA Day" 3 in Pennsylvania. 4 WHEREAS, Our society cannot tolerate cruelty to animals or 5 the depiction of cruelty to animals; and 6 WHEREAS, The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of 7 Cruelty to Animals) helps animals in need and promotes humane 8 animal care and treatment; and 9 WHEREAS, Cruelty to animals is often a precursor to 10 aggression toward other people; and 11 WHEREAS, The forms of abuse against animals are similar to 12 the forms of abuse against children: serious neglect, 13 mistreatment or violence; and 14 WHEREAS, The ASPCA has protected animals and enforced anti- 15 cruelty laws since 1866; and 16 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of 17 Cruelty to Animals operates six shelters in this Commonwealth;
1 and 2 WHEREAS, As part of "ASPCA Day," animal lovers and pets are 3 wearing orange, the official ASPCA color; and 4 WHEREAS, The ASPCA is encouraging the display of orange bows 5 or lights and the distribution or sale of orange baked goods in 6 recognition of animal welfare on the occasion of "ASPCA Day"; 7 therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of April 2008 9 as "Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month" and designate April 10, 10 2008, as "ASPCA Day" in Pennsylvania.
