A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of February 2016 as "Black History Month"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, It is the duty of a society to recognize those
individuals within its borders who have contributed greatly to
the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, The contributions of African-American residents as
scientists, inventors, farmers, educators, homemakers, explorers
and countless other professions have greatly benefited this
Commonwealth and our nation; and
WHEREAS, Multiethnicity and multiculturalism may be
encouraged with an increased awareness of the important role
that African Americans have played throughout the history of
this Commonwealth and our nation; and
WHEREAS, Carter Goodwin Woodson, an African-American
historian, recognized these contributions and accomplishments
and on February 7, 1926, created a cultural landmark known as
