A RESOLUTION

Recognizing May 6, 2010, as the "National Day of Prayer" in

2

Pennsylvania and encouraging the celebration of religious

3

freedom.

4

WHEREAS, The National Day of Prayer is a day set aside to

5

pray for our nation; and

6

WHEREAS, Public Law 82-324 calls on citizens of the United

7

States to reaffirm the role of prayer in our society and to

8

respect the freedom of religion; and

9

WHEREAS, The act of June 28, 1996 (P.L.422, No.61), provides

10

that the first Thursday in May of each year is designated as

11

"Commonwealth Day of Prayer and Celebration of Religious

12

Freedom"; and"

13

WHEREAS, The designated day, the first Thursday of May,

14

belongs to all citizens; and

15

WHEREAS, This annual event was not created for political

16

reasons or to promote any other agenda except prayer; and

WHEREAS, We pray for our leaders, for our communities, for

2

our families, for our children and for each other; and

3

WHEREAS, The National Day of Prayer is a day to ask for

4

healing, to heal our nation and to bring us together in true

5

unity; and

6

WHEREAS, Prayer is regarded by millions as the most important

7

utterance for the benefit of humankind; and

8

WHEREAS, Our nation was founded by single-minded men and

9

women who sought wisdom through prayer; and

10

WHEREAS, Prayer has aided many people throughout the history

11

of our nation and this Commonwealth when support and guidance

12

were needed; therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize May 6, 2010, as "National

14

Day of Prayer" in Pennsylvania.
