A RESOLUTION

Memorializing the Congress of the United States to designate the

2

Honor and Remember Flag as a national emblem of service and

3

sacrifice by the brave men and women of the United States

4

Armed Forces who have given their lives in the line of duty.

5

WHEREAS, While war deaths have been a part of our heritage

6

since the birth of this nation, the United States has not

7

instituted an official symbol commemorating fallen

8

servicepersons; and

9

WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 1034 of the 111th Congress

10

designates the Honor and Remember Flag, created by Honor and

11

Remember, Inc., to officially recognize and honor fallen members

12

of the armed forces; and

13

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag red field represents the

14

brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for freedom; and

15

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag blue star is a symbol of

16

active service in military conflict which dates back to World

17

War I; and

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag white border recognizes

2

the purity of sacrifice; and

3

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag gold star signifies the

4

ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who is not

5

returning home and reflects the value of the life given; and

6

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag folded flag element

7

highlights this nation's final tribute to a fallen serviceperson

8

and a family's sacrifice; and

9

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag flame symbolizes the

10

eternal spirit of the departed; and

11

WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania calls for a unifying

12

symbol recognizing this nation's solemn debt to the estimated

13

1.6 million fallen servicepersons throughout history and the

14

families and communities who mourned their loss; therefore be it

15

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania memorialize the

16

Congress of the United States to designate the Honor and

17

Remember Flag as a national emblem of service and sacrifice by

18

the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who

19

have given their lives in the line of duty; and be it further

20

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to

21

the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each

22

member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
