A RESOLUTION

 

1Urging the Congress of the United States to pass H.R. 318, a
2bill authorizing the construction of a Wall of Remembrance as
3part of the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

4WHEREAS, Representative Ralph Hall of Texas introduced H.R.
5318 on January 18, 2013, in the House of Representatives; and

6WHEREAS, H.R. 318 authorizes the raising of private funds to
7construct a Wall of Remembrance at the Korean War Veterans
8Memorial to list, by name, all of the members of the armed
9forces of the United States killed in action in the Korean War,
10and, by number, the members of the armed forces killed, wounded,
11imprisoned and missing in action from the United States, Korean
12Augmentation to the United States Army, Republic of Korea and
13other nations of the United Nations Command; and

14WHEREAS, The Korean War lasted three years, June 1950 to July
151953, and is commonly referred to as "The Forgotten War"; and

16WHEREAS, More than 5 million Americans served in the United
17States military during the Korean War, with nearly 2 million
18serving in combat; and

1WHEREAS, The United States military suffered more than
2100,000 casualties, including 23,613 killed in combat, 2,460
3that died of wounds sustained in combat, 4,817 missing in action
4and 2,849 captured and presumed dead; and

5WHEREAS, The United States was part of a United Nations
6effort on the Korean Peninsula with many countries contributing
7soldiers to assist the Republic of Korea, whose military and
8civilian population faced heavy casualties during the war; and

9WHEREAS, The soldiers who fought and died to protect the
10people of the Republic of Korea deserve to be honored; therefore
11be it

12RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
13urge the Congress of the United States to pass H.R. 318 to
14authorize construction of a Wall of Remembrance at the Korean
15War Veterans Memorial; and be it further

16RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
17the President of the United States, the presiding officers of
18each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from
19Pennsylvania.
