        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, OCTOBER 5, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing October 9, 2004, as "Windsong's Legacy Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Windsong's Legacy, a Pennsylvania-bred three-year-
     4  old colt, is seeking to become the harness horse racing
     5  industry's Triple Crown winner by finishing first in the October
     6  9, 2004, Kentucky Futurity race; and
     7     WHEREAS, On August 7, 2004, Windsong's Legacy outraced a
     8  field of ten in the 79th Hambletonian at the Meadowlands; and
     9     WHEREAS, On August 28, 2004, Windsong's Legacy continued his
    10  winning streak in the Yonkers Trot at Hawthorne Race Course,
    11  outrunning the field and winning in a record time that
    12  established a new Hawthorne all-age standard; and
    13     WHEREAS, Windsong's Legacy was bred and born at Windsong
    14  Stable, which is owned by the Spears family and located in
    15  Hanover, York County; and
    16     WHEREAS, Windsong's Legacy lost his mother and was raised as
    17  an orphan, stacking the odds against a successful racing career;


     1  and
     2     WHEREAS, Windsong's Legacy, along with his trainer-driver
     3  Trond Smedshammer and his owners Frederik Lindegaard, Claire
     4  Chappell and Ted Gewertz, and Patricia Spinelli, represents the
     5  very best the horse racing industry has to offer; and
     6     WHEREAS, Securing a win on October 9, 2004, would make
     7  Windsong's Legacy the first trotting horse to capture the Triple
     8  Crown since Super Bowl in 1972; and
     9     WHEREAS, Even without a Triple Crown, Windsong's Legacy
    10  already has staked his claim as one of the greatest standardbred
    11  horses of all time, becoming the top money earner in harness
    12  racing; and
    13     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's thriving equine industry plays an
    14  important role in this State's economy, heritage and quality of
    15  life; and
    16     WHEREAS, The equine industry is a major component of this
    17  State's agriculture industry, employing more than 20,000
    18  Pennsylvanians and generating millions of dollars in revenue and
    19  taxes; and
    20     WHEREAS, Windsong's Legacy and his accomplishments have
    21  proven and demonstrated the worth and value of Pennsylvania's
    22  equine industry to people all over the world; therefore be it
    23     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize October 9, 2004, as
    24  "Windsong's Legacy Day" in Pennsylvania and pay tribute to the
    25  incredible racing victories of Windsong's Legacy, his
    26  contributions to the future of horse racing in this Commonwealth
    27  and the achievements of his owners and trainers.
