           KUKOVICH, COSTA, BRIGHTBILL, ARMSTRONG, WENGER, SCHWARTZ,
           WAGNER, THOMPSON, SCARNATI, EARLL, ORIE, O'PAKE, ERICKSON,
           WONDERLING, WOZNIAK, RAFFERTY, STACK, LEMMOND, PIPPY AND
           GREENLEAF, OCTOBER 5, 2004

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, OCTOBER 5, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing November 14, 2004, as "Adoption Brings the World
     2     Together -- A Celebration of Cultural Diversity Day" in
     3     Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, Over the past decade, the number of American
     5  citizens adopting children from other countries has increased
     6  significantly; and
     7     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is among the top states with families
     8  having adopted children from abroad; and
     9     WHEREAS, Several organizations, including Families with
    10  Children from China, have formed a network of support and
    11  information for prospective parents and the families of adopted
    12  children; and
    13     WHEREAS, Families with Children from China, an organization
    14  that promotes a general awareness of Chinese and Chinese-
    15  American tradition and culture, hosts various lectures,
    16  workshops, social events and other programs; and
    17     WHEREAS, The Delaware Valley chapter of Families with

     1  Children from China is hosting an event in Philadelphia on
     2  November 14, 2004, to promote tolerance and respect for the
     3  world's cultures and raise social consciousness regarding
     4  adoption; and
     5     WHEREAS, This event, focusing on cultural issues which
     6  confront the parents and children of international adoption, is
     7  one of many events slated for November, recognized nationally as
     8  "Adoption Awareness Month"; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate November 14, 2004, as
    10  "Adoption Brings the World Together -- A Celebration of Cultural
    11  Diversity Day" in Pennsylvania and recognize the efforts of
    12  organizations dedicated to keeping adoptive children in touch
    13  with their cultural roots while raising society's awareness of
    14  the strength of adoptive family bonds.
