A RESOLUTION
1 Acknowledging the efforts of Philadelphia 2016 and the
2 cooperation of the Philadelphia region and the Commonwealth
3 of Pennsylvania to secure Philadelphia's designation as the
4 United States candidate city for the 2016 Olympic and
5 Paralympic Games and affirming the General Assembly's support
6 of these efforts; and encouraging the United States Olympic
7 Committee to favorably consider Philadelphia as the United
8 States candidate city.
9 WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania supports the efforts of
10 Philadelphia 2016 to be the United States candidate city for the
11 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games; and
12 WHEREAS, The Olympic and Paralympic Games have the potential
13 to generate tremendous economic benefits for the Philadelphia
14 region and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as well as
15 unparalleled international marketing exposure that showcases and
16 celebrates our communities; and
17 WHEREAS, The General Assembly applauds and supports the
18 regional cooperation that has distinguished the efforts of
19 Philadelphia 2016 and its supporters throughout the Commonwealth
20 of Pennsylvania; and
1 WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania is committed to working
2 cooperatively with the Host Committee to ensure that if
3 Philadelphia is selected as the United States candidate city, a
4 meaningful Olympic experience will be provided for all athletes,
5 families, visitors and guests at the 2016 Games; therefore be it
6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania acknowledge the
7 efforts of Philadelphia 2016 and the cooperation of the
8 Philadelphia region and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to
9 secure Philadelphia's designation as the United States candidate
10 city for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and affirm the
11 General Assembly's support of these efforts; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage the United States Olympic
13 Committee to favorably consider Philadelphia as the United
14 States candidate city; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
16 Philadelphia 2016 and the United States Olympic Committee.
