           ORIE, ERICKSON, WENGER, TARTAGLIONE, CONTI, FONTANA, O'PAKE,
           COSTA, RAFFERTY, PILEGGI, LOGAN, KITCHEN, EARLL, STACK,
           REGOLA, LEMMOND, KASUNIC, WONDERLING, RHOADES, PIPPY AND
           ARMSTRONG, JUNE 29, 2006

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 29, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating July 23, 2006, as "Parents' Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, The family unit is the primary source of the
     3  behavioral influences that develop ethical character, moral
     4  values and the capacity of children to accept and responsibly
     5  perform their duties to others and themselves; and
     6     WHEREAS, Parents are best positioned to influence the growth
     7  and development of their children from birth through the
     8  adolescent years to instill the values necessary to make the
     9  right choices, to have compassionate concern for other people,
    10  to persist in their goals, to honestly acknowledge their
    11  mistakes with humility and to try to fully develop their talents
    12  and realize their potential; and
    13     WHEREAS, "Parents' Day" is a reminder of the importance of
    14  the family unit and responsible parenting to ensuring the sound
    15  development of the young people who will be leading the world
    16  into the future; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate July 23, 2006, as
     2  "Parents' Day" in Pennsylvania and encourage all parents to
     3  commit themselves to responsible and nurturing parenting for the
     4  benefit of their children and a healthier society.
