SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of September 30, 1983 (P.L.160, No.39),
     2     entitled "An act establishing salaries and compensation of
     3     certain public officials including justices and judges of
     4     Statewide courts, judges of courts of common pleas, judges of
     5     the Philadelphia Municipal Court, judges of the Philadelphia
     6     Traffic Court, district justices and the Governor, the
     7     Lieutenant Governor, the State Treasurer, the Auditor
     8     General, the Attorney General and certain other State
     9     officers and the salary and certain expenses of the members
    10     of the General Assembly; and repealing certain inconsistent
    11     acts," providing compensation for the Secretary of Mental
    12     Health and Mental Retardation.

    13     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    14  hereby enacts as follows:
    15     Section 1.  Section 3(a) of the act of September 30, 1983
    16  (P.L.160, No.39), known as the Public Official Compensation Law,
    17  amended June 23, 1995 (P.L.324, No.51), is amended to read:
    18  Section 3.  Compensation of Governor and Lieutenant Governor;
    19                 State Treasurer; Auditor General; Attorney
    20                 General; Commissioners of the Pennsylvania Public
    21                 Utility Commission; and heads of departments.
    22     (a)  The Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and Cabinet.--The


     1  annual salaries of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and the
     2  heads of the departments shall be as follows: Governor,
     3  $125,000; Lieutenant Governor, $105,000; Adjutant General,
     4  $90,000; Secretary of Aging, $95,000; Secretary of Agriculture,
     5  $90,000; Secretary of Banking, $90,000; Secretary of Commerce,
     6  $95,000; Secretary of the Commonwealth, $90,000; Secretary of
     7  Community Affairs, $90,000; Secretary of Education, $100,000;
     8  Secretary of Environmental Protection, $100,000; Secretary of
     9  General Services, $95,000; Secretary of Health, $100,000;
    10  Insurance Commissioner, $90,000; Secretary of Labor and
    11  Industry, $100,000; Secretary of Mental Health and Mental
    12  Retardation, $100,000; Secretary of Public Welfare, $100,000;
    13  Secretary of Revenue, $95,000; State Police Commissioner,
    14  $95,000; Secretary of Transportation, $100,000; Secretary of
    15  Corrections, $100,000; Secretary of Conservation and Natural
    16  Resources $95,000.

    18     Section 2.  The provisions of this act establishing a
    19  compensation level for the Secretary of Mental Health and Mental
    20  Retardation shall be applicable after the enactment of
    21  legislation establishing the Department of Mental Health and
    22  Mental Retardation.
    23     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
