           REIBMAN, STAPLETON AND SHUMAKER, FEBRUARY 1, 1989

        REFERRED TO STATE GOVERNMENT, FEBRUARY 1, 1989

                                     AN ACT

     1  Designating the first Sunday in October as "I Am an American
     2     Day."

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  Designation of "I Am an American Day."
     6     In order to publicly recognize those who by birthright or by
     7  naturalization become citizens of the United States of America,
     8  the first Sunday in October of each year is designated as "I Am
     9  an American Day."
    10  Section 2.  Proclamation by Governor.
    11     The Governor is authorized and requested to issue a
    12  proclamation each year calling upon the people of this
    13  Commonwealth to recognize our new fellow citizens and to observe
    14  this day with appropriate honors and ceremonies.
    15  Section 3.  Effective date.
    16     This act shall take effect immediately.
