A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the week of October 15 through 21, 2006, as "Credit
2 Union Week" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Credit unions are individual, independent
4 cooperatives founded by people working together towards economic
5 advancement, uniting people seeking a way to improve their
6 futures; and
7 WHEREAS, Credit unions call for the pooling of personal
8 resources and leadership abilities for the good of the
9 cooperative, provide low-cost financial services to their
10 members, encourage a regular habit of saving so those in need
11 may borrow, and foster their desire to repay loans so members
12 may have access to credit when it is required; and
13 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania currently has 627 credit unions
14 empowering 3.37 million members to improve their economic
15 situations and serving members' financial needs; and
16 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania credit unions are associated through
17 local, regional, State and international organizations sharing
1 the same commitment to serving members; and
2 WHEREAS, Credit unions encourage and sponsor activities to
3 promote the charitable acts of their members; and
4 WHEREAS, The unselfish efforts of volunteers organized
5 through credit unions have benefited many worthwhile causes
6 throughout this Commonwealth and beyond; therefore be it
7 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of October 15
8 through 21, 2006, as "Credit Union Week" in Pennsylvania; and be
9 it further
10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
11 the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, 4309 North Front
12 Street, Harrisburg PA 17110.
