A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall in 2 Carnegie, Allegheny County. 3 WHEREAS, The $8.6 million campaign to restore, renovate and 4 revitalize the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, 5 launched in November 2003, is being funded through contributions 6 by government agencies, foundations, corporations and 7 individuals; and 8 WHEREAS, The slogan "Carnegie Carnegie" was coined in January 9 2004 to convey community pride in the regional cultural center; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Carnegie and surrounding communities repositioned 12 the library and music hall as the "beacon on the hill" through 13 donations in the aftermath of the September 2004 floods to meet 14 and exceed a $500,000 community challenge grant; and 15 WHEREAS, The fundraising campaign has featured Stage 62 16 productions, Lynne Rossetto Kasper of National Public Radio's 17 "The Splendid Table," the Allegheny County Library Association's
1 "One Book, One Community" initiative, Senior Circuit Judge 2 Ruggero J. Aldisert and mezzo-soprano Marianne Cornetti; and 3 WHEREAS, Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music 4 presented a Christmas Cabaret at the music hall in December 2005 5 and is conducting other concert events there; and 6 WHEREAS, In May 2006 the library commemorated the centennial 7 of its special charter with the Thomas Espy Post of the Grand 8 Army of the Republic through Civil War programming, and similar 9 programming is slated for May 19, 2007; and 10 WHEREAS, Cabaret legend Andrea Marcovicci is headlining at 11 the music hall on October 21, 2006, in "Andrea Marcovicci on 12 Broadway...at Main Street"; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania recognize the 14 Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall in Carnegie, 15 Allegheny County.
