SENATE BILL

No. 385 Session of 1989

        REFERRED TO JUDICIARY, FEBRUARY 3, 1989

                               A JOINT RESOLUTION

     1  Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth
     2     of Pennsylvania, providing for the Supreme Court of
     3     Pennsylvania to delegate all general supervisory and
     4     administrative authority to the other Statewide courts.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby resolves as follows:
     7     Section 1.  The following amendment to the Constitution of
     8  Pennsylvania is proposed in accordance with Article XI:
     9     That section 10(a) of Article V be amended to read:
    10  § 10.  Judicial administration.
    11     (a)  The Supreme Court shall exercise general supervisory and
    12  administrative authority over all the courts and justices of the
    13  peace, except the Superior and Commonwealth courts, including
    14  authority to temporarily assign judges and justices of the peace
    15  from one court or district to another as it deems appropriate.
    16  The Supreme Court shall confer all general supervisory and
    17  administrative authority to the Superior and Commonwealth
    18  Courts.
