A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of October 2008 as "Polish American 2 Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, This year marks the 400th anniversary of Polish 4 settlers arriving in the United States of America; and 5 WHEREAS, People of Polish heritage have contributed greatly 6 to global advancement and advancement of the United States and 7 Pennsylvania in particular; and 8 WHEREAS, People of Polish heritage have demonstrated 9 exceptional skills in the fields of acting, accounting, art, 10 dentistry, education, engineering, entertainment, general labor, 11 government, law, literature, management, mathematics, medicine, 12 the military, music, philosophy, poetry, sports and many other 13 endeavors; and 14 WHEREAS, Polish people are recognized for their strong work 15 ethic and outstanding achievements; and 16 WHEREAS, Polish notables include Ignacy Jan Paderewski, one
1 of the most famous and popular pianists of all time and an 2 advocate for Polish freedom, Revolutionary War heroes Casimir 3 Pulaski and Thaddeus Kosciuszko, Leopold Stokowski, a renowned 4 international conductor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, National Security 5 Advisor to President Carter, and Edmund Muskie, a United States 6 Senator from Maine; and 7 WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians of Polish heritage have made many 8 contributions to our nation; and 9 WHEREAS, These Pennsylvanians include Cardinal Jan Krol of 10 Philadelphia, baseball great Stan Musial of Donora and singer 11 Bobby Vinton of Canonsburg; and 12 WHEREAS, The Polish people have many reasons to be proud of 13 and to celebrate their heritage, culture and the achievements of 14 their people; and 15 WHEREAS, All Pennsylvanians are grateful for the many 16 contributions of Poland and its citizens to our Commonwealth; 17 therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of October 2008 19 as "Polish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania.
