SENATE BILL

        REFERRED TO JUDICIARY, FEBRUARY 3, 1989

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, granting civil immunity
     3     to providers of medical care to the indigent.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 42 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 8334.1.  Civil immunity for providers of medical care to the
     9             indigent.
    10     Any physician or any other practitioner of the healing arts
    11  or any registered nurse, licensed by the Commonwealth, who does
    12  not receive remuneration from any funding source for his
    13  services and participation in providing medical care for the
    14  indigent shall not be liable for any civil damages as a result
    15  of any acts or omissions by such physician or practitioner or
    16  registered nurse in rendering the care except any acts or
    17  omissions intentionally designed to harm or any grossly
    18  negligent acts or omissions which result in harm to the person

     1  receiving the care.
     2     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
