A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing Ruth and Raymond Perelman and the Perelman Center
2 for Advanced Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
3 Health System.
4 WHEREAS, On October 2, 2008, the Perelman Center for Advanced
5 Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System will be
6 dedicated; and
7 WHEREAS, The Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced
8 Medicine is a 360,000 square foot, state-of-the-art outpatient
9 facility that will be home to the University of Pennsylvania
10 Abramson Cancer Center, radiation oncology and cardiovascular
11 medicine; and
12 WHEREAS, The Perelman Center was made possible in large part
13 by a $25 million gift made by University of Pennsylvania alumnus
14 Raymond G. Perelman and his wife, Ruth Perelman, to help finance
15 its construction; and
16 WHEREAS, This transformational gift continues a tradition of
17 gracious giving by the Perelman family, as Mr. Perelman is a
18 trustee of PENN Medicine and a graduate of the University of
1 Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business; and
2 WHEREAS, The Perelman Center will set a new standard for
3 health care facilities in this nation by combining the most
4 advanced medical technology available with world-class patient-
5 centered care in a comfortable setting; and
6 WHEREAS, The Perelmans' gift will also help bring significant
7 long-term economic benefits to this Commonwealth and the City of
8 Philadelphia in the form of increased tax revenue and the
9 creation of jobs as PENN Medicine continues to grow; therefore
10 be it
11 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize Ruth and Raymond Perelman
12 and the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine at the University
13 of Pennsylvania Health System.
