SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled,
     2     as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class
     3     and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and
     4     changing the laws relating thereto," further providing for
     5     qualifications of elected county officers.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 413 of the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723,
     9  No.230), known as the Second Class County Code, amended June 16,
    10  1972 (P.L.466, No.148), is amended to read:
    11     Section 413.  Qualifications of Elected County Officers.--(a)
    12  No person shall be elected to any county office, except the
    13  office of district attorney otherwise provided for by this act,
    14  unless he shall be at least eighteen years of age, a citizen of
    15  the United States and a resident of the county, and shall have
    16  resided within the county for one year next preceding his
    17  election.
    18     (b)  In addition to the qualifications set forth in
    19  subsection (a), no person shall be elected to the office of

     1  coroner unless the person has a current license issued by the
     2  Pennsylvania Board of Medicine pursuant to the act of December
     3  20, 1985 (P.L.457, No.112), known as the Medical Practice Act of
     4  1985, or the State Board of Osteopathic Medicine pursuant to the
     5  act of October 5, 1978 (P.L.1109, No.261), known as the
     6  Osteopathic Medical Practice Act, at the time the person files a
     7  nomination petition for election to such office.
     8     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
