A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the 2nd Annual Capitol All Stars Charity Softball
2Game.
3WHEREAS, On September 23, 2014, members of the Pennsylvania
4General Assembly will play a nine-inning charity softball game
5at Metro Bank Park on City Island in Harrisburg to raise money
6for Feeding Pennsylvania and Hunger Free Pennsylvania; and
7WHEREAS, One million eight hundred and twenty thousand
8Pennsylvanians fight hunger, including approximately 536,000
9children who are nutritionally insecure; and
10WHEREAS, With the rising costs of other essentials such as
11home heating, medical care and gasoline, utilizing food
12assistance organizations has become a way of life for families
13to keep food on the table while still paying bills; and
14WHEREAS, Approximately 50,000 volunteers give of their time
15at the 20 food banks and charitable food distribution
16organizations and approximately 5,000 food pantries that are
17located in Pennsylvania; and
1WHEREAS, Food banks, food rescue organizations, soup kitchens
2and food pantries rely on fundraising efforts to continue to
3help those Pennsylvanians who are nutritionally insecure; and
4WHEREAS, In 2013, the Inaugural Capitol All Stars Charity
5Softball Game raised more than $62,000 to help those who are in
6need of emergency food assistance; therefore be it
7RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the 2nd Annual Capitol
8All Stars Charity Game.
