AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further providing for school bus requirements.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Section 4552 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
6 Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read:
7 § 4552. General requirements for school buses.

9 (b.4) Use of child restraint systems.--Every school bus
10 shall be equipped with a child restraint system that is in
11 conformity with 49 CFR 571.222 (relating to Standard No.222;
12 School bus passenger seating and crash protection). The child
13 restraint system is mandated according to the following
14 schedule:
15 (1) School buses may be equipped with a child restraint
16 system after December 31, 1999.
17 (2) Every new school bus purchased and manufactured
1 after June 30, 1999, shall be equipped with a child restraint
2 system.
3 (3) By July 1, 2005, every school bus shall be equipped
4 with a child restraint system.
5 The department shall adopt regulations implementing this
6 subsection.
