AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," providing for classroom placement of 6 twins and higher order multiple children. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known 10 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a 11 section to read: 12 Section 1320. Classroom Placement of Twins and Higher Order 13 Multiple Children.--(a) A parent or guardian of pupils who are 14 twins or higher order multiple children may request that the 15 pupils be placed in the same or separate classrooms, if they are 16 in the same grade level and at the same public school. 17 (b) (1) The public school may recommend classroom placement 18 to the parents and provide professional education advice to the 19 parents to assist them in making the best decision for the
1 pupils' education. 2 (2) A public school shall provide the placement provided by 3 the parent or guardian, unless there is no classroom space 4 available to accommodate the request or the school board makes a 5 classroom placement determination following the school 6 principal's request according to this section. 7 (c) The parent or guardian may request the classroom 8 placement no later than fourteen (14) days after the first day 9 of each school year or, if the pupils are enrolled in the school 10 after the school year commences, fourteen (14) days after the 11 first day of attendance of the pupils. 12 (d) At the end of the initial grading period, if the school 13 principal, in consultation with the pupils' classroom teachers, 14 determines the requested classroom placement is disruptive to 15 the school, the school principal may request the school board 16 determine the pupils' classroom placement. 17 (e) As used in this section, the term "higher order multiple 18 children" shall mean triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets or more. 19 Section 2.
