AN ACT 1 Amending the act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), entitled 2 "An act concerning townships of the first class; amending, 3 revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating 4 thereto," further providing for compensation. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Section 703 of the act of June 24, 1931 8 (P.L.1206, No.331), known as The First Class Township Code, 9 reenacted and amended May 27, 1949 (P.L.1955, No.569) and 10 amended October 31, 1995 (P.L.345, No.57), is amended to read: 11 Section 703. Compensation.--Each township commissioner may 12 receive a salary, established by ordinance, of not more than one 13 thousand eight hundred seventy-five dollars per year in 14 townships having a population of less than five thousand, not 15 more than two thousand five hundred dollars per year in 16 townships having a population of five thousand or more but less 17 than ten thousand, not more than three thousand two hundred 18 fifty dollars per year in townships having a population of ten 19 thousand or more but less than fifteen thousand, not more than
1 four thousand one hundred twenty-five dollars per year in 2 townships having a population of fifteen thousand or more but 3 less than twenty-five thousand, not more than four thousand 4 three hundred seventy-five dollars per year in townships having 5 a population of twenty-five thousand or more but less than 6 thirty-five thousand, and not more than five thousand dollars 7 per year in townships having a population of thirty-five 8 thousand or more. Such salaries shall be payable monthly or 9 quarterly for the duties imposed by the provisions of this act. 10 Benefits provided to the commissioners under section 1502(LXIII) 11 shall not be considered pay, salary or compensation; but payment 12 for all or a part of the premiums or charges for the benefits 13 shall be in accordance with section 1502(LXIII). The population 14 shall be determined by the latest available official census 15 figures, except that no township shall be required to reduce the 16 salary of a commissioner as a result of a decrease in population 17 or when an increase in salary is authorized pursuant to this 18 section, the increase may be applied to the amount of the salary 19 of the commissioner at the time such an increase is enacted by 20 the board of commissioners. 21 Section 2.
