AN ACT
1 Prohibiting prison inmates from working on certain construction
2 projects; and requiring supervision of all contract work.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Definitions.
6 The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
7 have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
8 context clearly indicates otherwise:
9 "Construction project." Any project, work or job undertaken
10 or approved by the Department of Corrections or the Department
11 of General Services or undertaken by a private contractor which
12 has a total cost of $5,000.
13 "Prison." A State, county, regional or local prison or
14 correctional facility.
15 Section 2. Prohibition.
16 No inmate of a prison shall work on a construction project on
17 prison property.
1 Section 3. Supervision.
2 All construction project work shall be supervised at all
3 times by corrections officers.
4 Section 4. Penalty.
5 Any person who violates this act commits a misdemeanor of the
6 third degree.
7 Section 5. Effective date.
8 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
