                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for the authority of police
     3     officers.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 6308(b) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 6308.  Investigation by police officers.
     9     * * *
    10     (b)  Authority of police officer.--Whenever a police officer
    11  is engaged in a systematic program of checking vehicles or
    12  drivers or has [articulable and reasonable grounds to suspect] a
    13  reasonable suspicion that a violation of this title has
    14  occurred, he may stop a vehicle, upon request or signal, for the
    15  purpose of checking the vehicle's registration, proof of
    16  financial responsibility, vehicle identification number or
    17  engine number or the driver's license, or to secure such other
    18  information as the officer may reasonably believe to be

     1  necessary to enforce the provisions of this title.

     3     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
