                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for special speed limitations.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  Section 3365(b) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     6  Consolidated Statutes is amended and the section is amended by
     7  adding a subsection to read:
     8  § 3365.  Special speed limitations.
     9     * * *
    10     (b)  School zones.--When passing a school zone as defined
    11  [and established] under regulations of the department, no person
    12  shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour.
    13  An official traffic-control device shall indicate the beginning
    14  and end of each school zone to traffic approaching in each
    15  direction. Establishment of a school zone, including its
    16  location and hours of operation, shall be approved by [the
    17  department.] local authorities. Local authorities shall also


     1  have the power to designate a school crossing as a school zone.

     3     (e)  Definition.--As used in this section, the term "school
     4  crossing" means a portion of a roadway at an intersection or
     5  elsewhere distinctly indicated for school children crossing by
     6  lines or other markings.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
