AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled, 
2as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class 
3and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and 
4changing the laws relating thereto," further providing for 
5certain disabled employees of jail and workhouses and 
6salaries and expenses to be paid.

7The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8hereby enacts as follows:

9Section 1. Section 1531 of the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.

10723, No.230), known as the Second Class County Code, is amended 
11to read:

12Section 1531. Employes of Jails and Workhouses Disabled by
13Violence, Injuries, Illness or Disease Suffered in the 
14Performance of Duty; Salaries and Expenses to be Paid.--Every
15guard, matron, nurse or other employe who comes in contact with
16inmates of any jail or workhouse, who is incapacitated as a
17result of violence by an inmate, injuries, illnesses or disease 
18suffered while in the performance of his duties, shall be paid
19by the county by which they are employed their full rate of
20salary as fixed by the salary board until the disability arising

1therefrom has ceased [, but the period of such salary payments
2by the county shall not exceed the period during which such
3employe is entitled to compensation for the injury, received
4under the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Act]. All
5medical and hospital bills incurred in connection with any such
6injuries, illnesses or disease shall be paid by such county. All
7benefits under the Workmen's Compensation Law which shall be
8received or collected by any such employe during the period he
9has received salary for temporary disability shall be paid over
10to the county and into the treasury thereof. If any such payment
11or payments shall not be so made by such employe, the amount so
12directed to be paid the county shall be deducted from any salary
13which shall then or thereafter become due and owing to such
14employe.

15Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
