SENATE BILL

        SENATOR MADIGAN, TRANSPORTATION, AS AMENDED, JUNE 19, 2001

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for exemption of registration fees for
     3     certain vehicle registration by recipients of the Purple
     4     Heart Medal.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1901(c) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania    <--
     8  Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a paragraph to read:
     9     SECTION 1.  SECTION 1901(D) OF TITLE 75 OF THE PENNSYLVANIA    <--
    10  CONSOLIDATED STATUTES IS AMENDED AND SUBSECTION (C) IS AMENDED
    11  BY ADDING A PARAGRAPH TO READ:
    12  § 1901.  Exemption of persons, entities and vehicles from fees.
    13     * * *
    14     (c)  Processing fee in lieu of registration fee.--No
    15  registration fee shall be charged for vehicles registered by any
    16  of the following but the department shall charge a fee of $10 to
    17  cover the costs of processing for issuing or renewing the
    18  registration:

     2         (24)  Any person who is a recipient of the Purple Heart
     3     Medal.

     5     (D)  LIMITATIONS.--                                            <--
     6         (1)  VEHICLES TITLED AND REGISTERED UNDER THE PROVISIONS
     7     OF THIS SECTION SHALL BE OPERATED AND USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR
     8     THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH THE VEHICLES WERE ENTITLED TO THE
     9     EXEMPTIONS FROM FEES.
    10         (2)  ONLY ONE PASSENGER CAR OR TRUCK WITH A REGISTERED
    11     GROSS WEIGHT OF NOT MORE THAN 9,000 POUNDS MAY BE REGISTERED
    12     TO ANY PERSON UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF SUBSECTION (B)(4) AND
    13     SUBSECTION (C)(16), (17), (18) [AND (19)], (19) AND (24).

    15     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
