SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for signs for public attractions.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     6  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     7  § 6109.1.  Public attractions.
     8     (a)  General rule.--Upon the request of the owner of any
     9  public attraction, the department shall install directional
    10  signs thereto at the nearest intersections along principal and
    11  arterial access routes. The department shall have no obligation
    12  to install such signs until the reasonable costs of obtaining
    13  and installing the signs have been paid by the owner, but shall
    14  proceed to do so within a reasonable time thereafter.
    15     (b)  Other signs permitted.--This section shall not be
    16  interpreted to prohibit the department from otherwise installing
    17  such directional signs as it determines to be appropriate or
    18  necessary.

     1     (c)  Definitions.--As used in this section, the following
     2  words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this
     3  subsection:
     4     "Arterial access route."  A State-owned highway connecting
     5  within five miles of the public attraction to a principal access
     6  route or to a local highway leading directly thereto.
     7     "Principal access route."  A State-owned highway connecting
     8  within one-and-one-half miles of the public attraction to the
     9  local highway leading directly thereto.
    10     "Public attraction."  A sports, historic, entertainment,
    11  tourist, recreation or cultural site and surrounding grounds
    12  open on not less than 25 dates yearly, and having an average
    13  daily or event attendance of not less than 1,500 people and
    14  average annual attendance of not less than 50,000 persons.
    15     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
