| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled, |
2 | as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third, |
3 | fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending, |
4 | revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating |
5 | thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties, |
6 | including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the |
7 | rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and |
8 | providing for regional renaissance initiatives," further |
9 | providing for the abolishment of the office of jury |
10 | commissioner. |
11 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
12 | hereby enacts as follows: |
13 | Section 1. Section 401 of the act of August 9, 1955 |
14 | (P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by |
15 | adding a subsection to read: |
16 | Section 401. Enumeration of Elected Officers.--* * * |
17 | (f) After review of the procedures in effect within the |
18 | county to ensure that lists of potential jurors are a |
19 | representative cross section of the community, the governing |
20 | body of a county of the third through eighth class may adopt, by |
21 | a majority vote, a resolution abolishing the office of jury |
22 | commissioner. Upon approval of the resolution, the office of |

1 | jury commissioner shall expire at the completion of the current |
2 | jury commissioners' terms of office. The resolution shall not be |
3 | passed in any year in which the office of jury commissioner is |
4 | on the ballot. |
5 | Section 2. The amendment of section 401 of the act shall |
6 | apply to jury commissioners holding office on or after the |
7 | effective date of this section. |
8 | Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately. |
