AN ACT

 

1Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania
2Consolidated Statutes, in responsible utility customer
3protection, further providing for termination of utility
4service; providing for expiration of provisions; and making a
5related repeal.

6The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
7hereby enacts as follows:

8Section 1. Section 1406(d) of Title 66 of the Pennsylvania
9Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:

10§ 1406. Termination of utility service.

12(d) Timing of termination.--Notwithstanding the provisions
13of section 1503 (relating to discontinuance of service), a
14public utility may terminate service for the reasons set forth
15in subsection (a) from Monday through [Friday] Thursday as long
16as the public utility can accept payment to restore service on
17the following day and can restore service consistent with
18section 1407 (relating to reconnection of service).

1Section 2. Title 66 is amended by adding a section to read:

2§ 1419. Expiration of chapter.

3This chapter shall expire December 31, 2024.

4Section 3. Repeals are as follows:

5(1) The General Assembly finds and declares that the
6repeal under paragraph (2) is necessary to effectuate the
7addition of 66 Pa.C.S. § 1419.

8(2) Section 5 of the act of November 30, 2004 (P.L.1578,
9No.201), entitled "An act amending Title 66 (Public
10Utilities) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further
11defining 'common carrier by motor vehicle'; providing for
12consumer protection and information and for the protection of
13responsible customer of public utilities; abrogating
14regulations; and preempting local regulation," is repealed.

15Section 4. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
