                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for relief in
     3     protection from abuse proceedings.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 6108(a)(8) of Title 23 of the
     7  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 6108.  Relief.
     9     (a)  General rule.--The court may grant any protection order
    10  or approve any consent agreement to bring about a cessation of
    11  abuse of the plaintiff or minor children. The order or agreement
    12  may include:
    13         * * *
    14         (8)  Directing the defendant to pay the plaintiff for
    15     reasonable losses suffered as a result of the abuse,
    16     including medical, dental, relocation and moving expenses;
    17     counseling; loss of earnings or support; costs of repair or
    18     replacement of real or personal property damaged, destroyed

     1     or taken by the defendant or at the direction of the
     2     defendant; and other out-of-pocket losses for injuries
     3     sustained. In addition to out-of-pocket losses, the court
     4     [may] shall direct the defendant to pay reasonable attorney
     5     fees. An award under this chapter shall not constitute a bar
     6     to litigation for civil damages for injuries sustained from
     7     the acts of abuse giving rise to the award or a finding of
     8     contempt under this chapter.

    10     Section 2.  This act shall apply to protection orders granted
    11  and consent agreements approved on or after the effective date
    12  of this act.
    13     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
