| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating the bridge that carries Pennsylvania Turnpike Route |
2 | 43 over the Monongahela River between Denbo in the Borough of |
3 | Centerville, County of Washington, and Alicia in the Township |
4 | of Luzerne, County of Fayette, as the PFC Ronald C. "Smokey" |
5 | Bakewell Memorial Bridge. |
6 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
7 | hereby enacts as follows: |
8 | Section 1. PFC Ronald C. "Smokey" Bakewell Memorial Bridge. |
9 | (a) Declaration.--The General Assembly declares that Private |
10 | First Class Ronald C. "Smokey" Bakewell made the ultimate |
11 | sacrifice for this Commonwealth on August 2, 1968, when he died |
12 | from hostile, small arms fire while serving in the Army of the |
13 | United States in South Vietnam. On June 16, 1968, PFC Bakewell, |
14 | age 20, was assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, |
15 | 1st Air Cavalry Division, when less than two months later his |
16 | life ended in the service of his country. |
17 | (b) Designation.--The bridge that carries Pennsylvania |
18 | Turnpike Route 43 over the Monongahela River between Denbo in |
19 | the Borough of Centerville, County of Washington, and Alicia in |

1 | the Township of Luzerne, County of Fayette, is designated the |
2 | PFC Ronald C. "Smokey" Bakewell Memorial Bridge. |
3 | (c) Signs.--The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission shall place |
4 | and maintain appropriate signs at both ends of the bridge as |
5 | designated in subsection (b). |
6 | Section 2. Effective date. |
7 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
