           WHITE, WAUGH, BELL, TOMLINSON, GERLACH, BRIGHTBILL, BOSCOLA,
           STAPLETON, GREENLEAF, DENT, COSTA, HART, MOWERY, WENGER,
           LEMMOND, TILGHMAN AND KASUNIC, SEPTEMBER 19, 2000

        REFERRED TO STATE GOVERNMENT, SEPTEMBER 19, 2000

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of December 4, 1992 (P.L.761, No.115), entitled
     2     "An act designating May 15th as "Peace Officers Memorial Day"
     3     in Pennsylvania; designating that week of May during which
     4     May 15th occurs as "Police Week" in Pennsylvania; designating
     5     the Sunday during Fire Prevention Week as "Firefighters'
     6     Memorial Sunday"; and requiring that the flags of the United
     7     States and this Commonwealth be flown at half-mast on May
     8     15th," further providing for display of flags.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Section 1(c) of the act of December 4, 1992
    12  (P.L.761, No.115), entitled "An act designating May 15th as
    13  "Peace Officers Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania; designating that
    14  week of May during which May 15th occurs as "Police Week" in
    15  Pennsylvania; designating the Sunday during Fire Prevention Week
    16  as "Firefighters' Memorial Sunday"; and requiring that the flags
    17  of the United States and this Commonwealth be flown at half-mast
    18  on May 15th," is amended to read:
    19  Section 1.  Police Officers memorial.

     1     (c)  Display of flags.--The flag of the United States and the
     2  flag of this Commonwealth shall be flown at half-mast from all
     3  public grounds and buildings of this Commonwealth [on] as
     4  follows:
     5         (1)  On May 15th to honor peace officers who lost their
     6     lives in the line of duty.
     7         (2)  Upon the death of a peace officer, firefighter or
     8     paramedic killed in the line of duty.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
