                 Act of Nov. 19, 2004, P.L. 868, No. 113 Cl. 87
                                  AN ACT

Redesignating the bridge on State Route 228 which passes over
Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township, Butler County, as the
        79th Infantry Division Memorial Bridge.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1. Redesignation of bridge in Butler County.
        (a) Findings.--The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania finds and declares as follows:
            (1) The 79th Infantry Division of the United States Army
fought gallantly in Normandy and elsewhere during World War
        II.
            (2) The 79th Infantry Division was known as the Cross of
Lorraine Division from the insignia they wore on their
shoulders. The insignia was adopted after the division
distinguished itself in that region of France in World War I.
            (3) The 79th Infantry Division contained three
regiments, the 313th Infantry Regiment, the 314th Infantry
Regiment and the 315th Infantry Regiment.
            (4) The members of the 79th Infantry Division braved
frigid waters and a torrent of enemy fire to land on the
European continent at Utah Beach and begin the long march
that would put an end to the tyranny of the Nazis. Sadly,
many members would never return home to their families.
            (5) June 2004 marks the 60th anniversary of the
        division's landing in Normandy.
            (6) It is fitting and good public policy to honor those
brave soldiers and thank them for their sacrifices to
        preserve our freedom.
        (b) Redesignation.--The bridge on State Route 228 which
passes over Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township, Butler County,
Department of Transportation No. BMS 10-0228-0010-1443, is
hereby redesignated as the 79th Infantry Division Memorial
     Bridge.
        (c) Signs.--The department shall erect and maintain
appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge redesignated
in subsection (b) to traffic in both directions on the bridge.
These signs shall contain a reproduction of the 79th Infantry
Division insignia. The department shall also place an
appropriate marker containing the name of the bridge on both
sides of the bridge to be visible to traffic on Interstate 79.
     Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
