Subject: | Regular Inspection of HVAC Fire and Smoke Dampers |
Heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are critically important in allowing many modern offices and buildings to function properly by allowing air to flow throughout a building. One of the problems posed by HVAC is during a fire or smoke incident, HVAC could transport deadly fire, smoke, or gas throughout a building. Fire and smoke dampers are installed in HVAC systems to help prevent the spread of fire and smoke throughout the building. In order to ensure fire and smoke dampers work properly, they need to be regularly inspected and maintained. That is why I am proposing legislation to require regular inspection and needed maintenance on these dampers. These inspections will occur every 4 years and be subject to standards in the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code and NFPA standards. This legislation will help to ensure that an accident or incident does not turn into a tragic or disastrous event. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
