Subject: | United States and Pennsylvania Flags -- Made in the U.S.A. (former HB 651) |
The elimination of import quotas on hundreds of textile products under a World Trade Agreement is a major concern to American textile manufacturers who are already suffering losses of licenses because of Chinese competition. Therefore, I will be reintroducing legislation that requires the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to procure only United States and Pennsylvania flags which are manufactured in the United States. Allow me to share two thoughts: First, let us assist our struggling textile companies by having these flags manufactured in our country; and, second, let us be proud of the "Made in the U.S.A." label. We have precedents for this type of proposal: The U.S. Steel Procurement Act and the American Made Motor Vehicle Act. Presently, the Annin Flag Manufacturer in Roseland, New Jersey, is one of the flag manufacturers from which General Services purchases its flags. Attached is information about this company.
